The BBQ bachelors
and crew went for an action packed trip down the Gold
Coast Broadwater on board ‘Getaway’ from
Fantaseas Houseboat Holidays.
While half the crew managed to
make it to the marina on time, the chefs (as usual)
were no where to be seen when it was time for the boat
to leave the marina. The tide was quickly dropping,
so the houseboat had to leave. I sent the boys an SMS
to let them know they had to make their own way out
to the broadwater.

A long, slow 2 hours later we arrive in Tipplers Passage,
a beautiful section of water.

A few minutes later in true BBQ Bachelors style, a sea plane could
be seen in the distance coming into land in the middle of the channel.
The plane approached the back of the boat with Luke and Josh hanging
out the windows cheering loudly. They had convinced the pilot Anthony
to pick them up from Sanctuary Cove to where we were anchored, via
Surfers Paradise. We thanked Anthony as he floated away and took
off for another flight.
After the boys had dropped off all their gear and settled in, everyone
decided to rest on the back of the boat and wet a few lines. A decent
sized flathead and a couple of crabs were caught when the lunch
time siren rang. ‘Money Mike’ was in charge of cooking
come Lamb Souvlakis with onion, lettuce, tomato and his own special
garlic sauce.
After a massive dose of much need nutrients, a parasailing boat
was seen floating past us. The phone number on the side of the boat
gave Luke the idea to ring them and get on a flight there and then.
They happily agreed and before they knew it, the boys were strapped
in and about 250 feet up, taking in some spectacular views. After
landing back on the boat and jumping back on the houseboat, it was
decided to take the dinghy to solid ground and meet some of the
locals.
We made our way to the local pub where we played the old school
classic ‘Street Fighter’ with a couple of tourists for
about an hour or so. Luke was the overall champion. After losing
all our change, we decided to head back to the boat and prepare
for dinner. This should have been a simple task had it not been
for the dinghy running out of petrol. Thankfully the tide was in
our favour and we gently floated back and finally got ready for
dinner.

The chefs cooked up an awesome pork roll coated in apples and bacon
rashers slowly cooking it for about an hour or so. This gave us
plenty of time to take in the Wallabies beating Ireland in the rugby
on the houseboats TV. After cheering hysterically and eating the
superbly cooked pork, everyone sat on the back deck and discussed
the hard hitting topics until the wee hours of the morning.

Waking early in the morning to fog and a brisk wind, the chefs
cooked bacon and eggs for the crew and we threw in a couple of lines
in an attempt to catch lunch. After catching a few more fish, the
Jetpilot Wakeboarding Crew arrived and docked on the back of the
boat. The BBQ bachelors jumped on and were treated to some world
class wakeboarding. After some massive airs and insane tricks, it
was time for lunch.

We set up the BBQ in the middle of a sand bank and with the entire
Jetpilot crew in the background, the chefs cooked a delicious marinated
lamb roast. After knocking off the entire lamb and a few yarns being
spun, we said goodbye to the crew and headed back to the houseboat.
It was soon time to head back to the marina. Disappointed with
their fishing efforts over the week end, Luke and Josh sat themselves
in the dinghy we were towing and attempted to troll the channel
for the journey back home. Their efforts were in vein as they came
up empty handed.

After catching some sun, relentless fishing and some awesome wicked
food, it was time for the trip to end. We docked at the marina and
concluded an awesome weekend.
All the footage from the trip can be seen on Foxtel’s Aurora
channel 183 starting Monday 7th July at 8:30pm and photos of the
trip can be seen on the BBQ Bachelors website www.thebbqbachelors.com.au.
Till next week, see you then.
